ACU hosts an engaging knowledge transfer seminar highlighting open science, research data management, and research support strategies inspired by ULUND library.
As a continuation of the GEMSTONE Project’s capacity-building activities, Acibadem Mehmet Ali Aydinlar University (ACU) successfully hosted the seminar titled “GEMSTONE Project Experiences in Research Support: Best Practices from Lund University Library” on Thursday, 20 March 2025. The event marked a milestone in ACU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its research support ecosystem by learning from international partners.
Cross-departmental participation and high engagement
Held at ACU’s Kerem Aydinlar Campus, the seminar brought together around 15 participants from diverse units, including ACU Library staff, Technology Transfer Office members, and both junior and senior researchers. The broad representation of roles enriched the discussion, ensuring a well-rounded and collaborative learning experience.
Insights from a leading European institution
The session was led by Ayca Aydemir Mazlumoglu, ACU’s Library and Electronic Resources Director, who returned from a short-term research visit to Lund University (ULUND) in Sweden — one of GEMSTONE’s key project partners. Drawing on her time at ULUND Library, Ms. Aydemir Mazlumoglu shared valuable observations on open science management, research data stewardship, and institutional collaboration models that are transforming research support in Europe.
Her presentation, based on a thorough review of ULUND’s practices, sparked thoughtful questions and dialogue among attendees, paving the way for reflection on ACU’s own strategies and opportunities for growth.

Fostering a culture of knowledge exchange
The seminar provided not only a platform for sharing international best practices but also a space for interactive exchange, with participants actively contributing insights from their own departmental contexts. The high level of engagement underscored the relevance of the topics discussed and the shared commitment to strengthening ACU’s research capacity.
A step forward for GEMSTONE missions
This event reaffirmed GEMSTONE’s mission to build institutional capacity and enhance international collaboration, with a strong focus on research excellence and support infrastructure. The feedback and knowledge from this session will inform future initiatives within the project and contribute to more integrated, accessible, and efficient research practices at ACU.
