networking visit

In a significant step towards fostering international collaboration, the Principal Investigator of the Horizon Europe-funded GEMSTONE Project, Prof. Filiz Onat, conducted a high-impact networking visit to London, UK, from 25 to 27 February 2025.

The visit aimed to establish new research partnerships, explore funding opportunities, and showcase GEMSTONE’s innovative contributions to Acibadem Mehmet Ali Aydinlar University’s (ACU) capacity building in neuroscience and gene engineering.

During the visit, Prof. Onat held strategic meetings with esteemed researchers, including Dr. Rauan Kaiyrzhanov and Prof. Henry Houlden from UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, Dr. Busra Acar Sevim from Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, and Dr. Guliz Gurel Ozcan from UCL Division of Biosciences. These discussions centered on potential joint research projects, participation in upcoming Horizon Europe calls, and broadening GEMSTONE’s research focus to include neurogenetic studies and brain diseases.

One of the key outcomes of the visit was the agreement to collaborate on funding applications within the Health Cluster of Horizon Europe’s Work Programme 2025. Additionally, the discussions highlighted the importance of increasing GEMSTONE’s visibility and attractiveness within the UK scientific community to facilitate future collaborations.

Prof. Onat’s visit underscored ACU’s commitment to strengthening its international research network and enhancing its role as a leading institution in neuroscience and biomedical research. The GEMSTONE Project will continue to build upon these connections to drive impactful scientific advancements and global partnerships.
