Prof. Filiz Onat, the Coordinator of GEMSTONE, undertook a 3-day short visit to Lund University (ULUND) from 3 to 5 May 2023. Her visit had a primary objective of learning about production methods related to genetically engineered animal models to make an informed decision on which to implement upon her return to Acibadem University (ACU).

Prof. Onat is currently in discussions with the principal investigator and co-investigators to determine the most applicable protocol in ACU. To achieve this, she needs a comprehensive understanding of the resources available at ULUND, including labour and equipment, to evaluate and discuss the methods in terms of sustainability.

Additionally, Prof. Onat is observing the different chemogenetic modulation and ex-vivo electrophysiological recording techniques preferred by her colleagues in Lund, giving her an opportunity to have an in-depth discussion about the techniques' advantages and disadvantages. The short visit was a valuable opportunity for Prof. Onat to broaden her knowledge and gain insights that will be beneficial for the GEMSTONE Project.

The visit included participation in Neuroscience Day organized by ULUND, which provided an opportunity for Prof. Onat to network with experts in neuroscience and learn about the latest developments in the field. The new insights and knowledge acquired from the visit and event will enhance the GEMSTONE Project's aim to develop new therapies for neurological disorders.

Early-career researchers in neuroscience and neuroscientists open to collaboration will find the GEMSTONE Project and Prof. Onat's experience insightful and beneficial to their work. The GEMSTONE team appreciates ULUND for hosting Prof. Onat and providing her with the opportunity to enhance her knowledge and expertise in the field of neuroscience.
