Within the scope of the GEMSTONE Project’s dissemination and networking activities, Project Manager Cem Ozturk and Researcher Talat Taygun Turan represented Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University at the Building Bridges 2025 Conference, held in Dresden, Germany, on 11-12 September 2025.


The conference, themed “Latest Findings in Artificial Intelligence,” gathered leading researchers, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss the transformative role of AI across science, healthcare, and industry. By fostering exchanges between Saxony and Widening countries, the event provided a dynamic platform for exploring cutting-edge AI developments and strengthening cross-border collaboration.

Widening participation and best practices in Horizon Europe


The opening day featured a dedicated session on “Widening Participation in Horizon Europe: Sharing Best Practices,” where experienced coordinators and participants shared insights on the management of WIDERA projects. The GEMSTONE team actively contributed by connecting with peers from Eastern Europe and the Baltics, exchanging success stories and challenges, and exploring strategies to enhance collaboration opportunities under Horizon Europe.

Showcasing GEMSTONE results


Throughout the two days, the GEMSTONE team hosted an information booth alongside start-ups and research initiatives. Engaging with visitors, they presented a poster on GEMSTONE best practices, and distributed leaflets and the printed copies of newly-released flagship publication, “Making It Work: GEMSTONE Project’s Better Practices for Horizon Europe Newcomers.” This guide, developed by Acıbadem University and its partners, captures tested methods, lessons learned, and pragmatic strategies for successful participation in Horizon Europe projects.

Matchmaking on AI and health


On the second day, the GEMSTONE team participated in an interactive matchmaking session on “AI and Health”. In targeted group discussions, Cem Ozturk and Talat Taygun Turan explored synergies with other participants, identifying opportunities for joint research in AI-driven healthcare and related fields.

Strengthening networks for the future


Over the course of the conference, the GEMSTONE team engaged with dozens of researchers, extending the project’s impact by sharing best practices and building new connections for future collaborations. The participation at Building Bridges 2025 reflects GEMSTONE’s ongoing commitment to supporting Widening countries, promoting research excellence, and exploring how technologies like AI can contribute to advancements in neuroscience and beyond.
