As part of its commitment to outreach and capacity building, the GEMSTONE Project took part in the MD-PhD Programmes Info Day on 13 June 2025 to introduce prospective students to the research and training opportunities offered at Acibadem Mehmet Ali Aydinlar University (ACU).

Held at the University’s Kerem Aydinlar Campus, the event brought together aspiring medical students with an interest in advanced research. The MD-PhD Programmes at ACU integrate rigorous medical education provided by the School of Medicine with the cutting-edge research ecosystem of the Institute of Health Sciences, offering a unique opportunity for students to simultaneously pursue clinical and research careers.

Prof. Filiz Onat, Primary Principal Investigator of the Horizon Europe-funded GEMSTONE Project, delivered a presentation to highlight the Neuroscience MD-PhD Programme and the opportunities made available through GEMSTONE. She emphasized the project’s role in strengthening ACU’s international collaboration, especially in epilepsy research, and how it supports students and early-stage researchers in developing their careers within a world-class research environment.

The presentation was followed by an interactive Q&A and discussion session, during which current MD-PhD students, recent graduates, and GEMSTONE researchers shared their academic journeys and experiences. Current student Ömer Demir, recent graduate Aylin Toplu, and GEMSTONE researcher Talat Taygun Turan spoke about the dynamic learning environment at ACU, access to advanced research infrastructure, and the mentorship and international exposure they received.

By participating in events like the MD-PhD Info Day, the GEMSTONE Project continues to promote the vibrant academic and research culture of ACU, aiming to attract the next generation of scientists and clinicians to shape the future of neuroscience research.
