The visit marked a significant step toward strengthening international research ties.
Acibadem Mehmet Ali Aydinlar University (ACU) had the privilege of hosting Dr. Murat Bastepe, Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Principal Investigator at Massachusetts General Hospital, for a scientific seminar and networking visit on 29 April 2025. The seminar, entitled “Epigenetic Regulation of G Protein Levels and GPCR Signaling in Multihormone Resistance,” was organized by ACU’s Department of Medical Pharmacology and attracted significant interest from faculty members, researchers, and students.
Following the seminar, Dr. Bastepe held a high-level networking meeting with Prof. Filiz Onat, Principal Investigator of the Horizon Europe-funded GEMSTONE Project. The two researchers explored potential avenues for international scientific collaboration – a core focus of GEMSTONE’s agenda.
Dr. Bastepe brings internationally recognized expertise in the molecular pharmacology of GPCR signaling, with a particular emphasis on endocrine physiology and multihormone resistance syndromes, and his research program has contributed substantially to our understanding of G protein signaling disorders, while Prof. Filiz Onat, a renowned expert in neuropharmacology, basic and clinical epilepsy research, and central cardiovascular regulation, is leading the GEMSTONE initiative at ACU to strengthen international research cooperation, particularly in brain disorders.
The meeting highlighted a shared interest in deepening translational research that bridges molecular signaling pathways with neurological and endocrine pathologies. Discussions included future opportunities for joint publications and collaborative grant proposals. This exchange reflects GEMSTONE’s ongoing commitment to fostering strategic international partnerships and advancing excellence in neuroscience research and innovation at ACU.
